Enhanced Behavioral Services Overview

Enhanced Behavioral Services are specialized supports provided by San Andreas Regional Center (SARC) to individuals with developmental disabilities who are experiencing significant behavioral challenges that impact their health, safety, stability, or ability to remain successfully in their home or community setting.

These services are designed to provide individualized, clinically informed behavioral assessment, intervention, and support. The goal is to reduce challenging behaviors, build positive skills, strengthen caregivers and support teams, and promote long-term stability and quality of life.

Enhanced Behavioral Services focus on proactive, strength-based approaches that help individuals develop replacement skills, increase independence, and improve overall well-being.

How to Get Help

  • Talk with your Service Coordinator if behavioral challenges are affecting health, safety, placement stability, or daily functioning

  • Behavioral needs are reviewed, discussed, and authorized through the Individual Program Plan (IPP) process

How the Regional Center Helps

SARC supports individuals by coordinating Enhanced Behavioral Services when clinically appropriate. Services may include assessment, intervention planning, consultation, and ongoing monitoring to ensure effectiveness.

Support may include collaboration with:

  • Behavioral professionals (e.g., Board Certified Behavior Analysts or other qualified clinicians)

  • Service providers and direct support staff

  • Family members and caregivers

  • Residential or day program teams

  • Generic or community-based behavioral health resources

Enhanced Behavioral Services are individualized and designed to complement existing supports.

Your Service Coordinator

Each individual is assigned a Service Coordinator who helps determine whether Enhanced Behavioral Services are appropriate. The Service Coordinator:

  • Reviews behavioral concerns and risk factors

  • Coordinates clinical assessments as needed

  • Documents services and goals in the IPP

  • Monitors progress and service effectiveness

  • Ensures collaboration among providers and support teams

  • Adjusts services as needs change

Important to Know

  • Services are individualized based on assessed behavioral needs

  • Interventions are evidence-informed and focused on positive behavior supports

  • Caregiver and staff training may be included

  • Services are reviewed regularly through the IPP process

  • The goal is long-term stability, skill development, and reduced reliance on restrictive interventions

Enhanced Behavioral Services May Include

Depending on individual needs, services may include:

  • Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA)

  • Development of Behavior Support Plans (BSP)

  • Individual behavioral intervention services

  • Crisis prevention and intervention planning

  • Caregiver and staff coaching or training

  • Consultation with residential or day program providers

  • Intensive behavioral supports for individuals at risk of placement disruption

  • Coordination with mental health or other generic resources when appropriate

Every Plan Is Different

  • Services are based on individualized assessment and documented need

  • Two individuals with similar behaviors may receive different types or levels of support

  • Frequency and intensity of services vary depending on risk and clinical recommendations

Ongoing Review and Stability

Enhanced Behavioral Services are reviewed regularly through the IPP process. As individuals develop skills, stabilize behaviors, and natural or community supports increase, services may be adjusted. The goal is to promote independence, safety, and long-term success in the least restrictive environment possible.
